Goran is native of Belgrade, Serbia (in former Yugoslavia).
Goran started his karate training in age of 14 (1979) under supervision and guidance
of one of great European champions Zika Vukojcic. He earned Black Belt 1st Degree
in 1985. Unlike in America today when most karate practitioners can earn their
black belt after only 3 years of training with 3 trainings a week, Goran was
working towards his Black Belt old fashioned way:
6 years of training with at least 400 trainings a year.
In 2002 Goran has
earned his Black Belt 5th Degree under supervision
of
the other European karate legend, Vladimir Yorga
and legendary Japanese Karate master Hidetaka Nishiyama.
Although his career
was interrupted by military service, service in
tactical police units, and executive protection
career, for more than 15 years Goran was competing
all over the world and he ended career with record
206-58-5.
Goran's life story
was subject of documentary film the Saga on Samurai & the
Mud (1992) by director Vladimir Perovic. The Saga
on Samurai & the Mud was shown on many international
festivals of documentary film and has won number
of awards.
Goran's book Karate (written in Serbian language) was published in 1996.
Book treating differences in basic scientific approach to coaching athletes
of different age groups from selection in early age to the world class athlete
level. Click here to read review.
In 2000 Goran has earned coaching degree from the Faculty of Sport and Physical
Education, University of
Belgrade (http://www.dif.bg.ac.rs/en/ ).
Currently, Goran is working on the book on conditioning in mixed martial arts.
Goran believe that large percentage of professional athletes are starting using
anabolic steroids and other illegal substances just because their results are
limited by wrongly conducted physical conditioning process. Emphasize of Goran's
new book is on importance of understanding training process in professional
sport and importance of correct planning and execution of training plans.
For 15 years, Goran has helped to train professional athletes in karate, boxing,
Olympic wrestling, kick-boxing, soccer, basketball, handball, track & field,
and body building. He prepares and executes conditioning programs for teams
as well as individuals.
In November
of 2007 Goran has asked Governor Sonny Perdue
to proclaim official
Health and Fitness Day of The State of Georgia.
Governor Perdue understood importance of Goran's
request and he has proclaimed March 21 for official
Georgia Health and Fitness Day. Click
